Who We Are

The Somali National Library (SNL) stands as the premier institution for knowledge preservation and cultural heritage in Somalia. Founded in 1976, the library has weathered decades of challenges to emerge as a symbol of resilience and intellectual renewal.

Our mission extends beyond mere book storage. We are the guardians of Somalia's documentary memory, custodians of rare manuscripts, and facilitators of research and learning. From ancient Islamic texts to contemporary academic works, our collections span centuries of human knowledge and creativity.

Today, under the visionary leadership of Director General Mohamud Mohamed Siad, SNL is undergoing a comprehensive revival. With support from UNESCO, international partners, and the Somali government, we are transforming into a modern institution that honors our past while embracing the digital future.
