Mr. Mohamud Mohamed Siad

Director General

Somali National Library

Assalamu Alaikum and Welcome to the Somali National Library,

It is with great pride and optimism that I welcome you to the Somali National Library (SNL). As we stand at the threshold of a new chapter in our institution's history, I am filled with hope for what we can achieve together.

The Somali National Library is more than a repository of books; it is the keeper of our nation's memory, the guardian of our cultural heritage, and the foundation upon which we build our intellectual future. For nearly five decades, we have served as the primary institution for knowledge preservation in Somalia, and today, we are embarking on an ambitious journey of revival and modernization.

Our Three-Pillar Revival Strategy—Protecting Documentary Memory, Reopening Doors to All Somalis, and Building a Modern Digital Library—represents our commitment to honoring our past while embracing the future. With the support of UNESCO, our international partners, and the Somali government, we are transforming SNL into a world-class institution that serves all segments of our society.

I invite you to explore our collections, participate in our programs, and join us in our mission. Whether you are a student seeking knowledge, a researcher pursuing academic excellence, or a citizen interested in your heritage, the Somali National Library is your library.

Together, we will ensure that the wisdom of our ancestors is preserved for our children, and that the stories of today are documented for tomorrow. We are not just preserving books; we are preserving the soul of our nation.

Thank you for your support, and I look forward to welcoming you to our library.
