Education & Outreach
The Education and Outreach Department develops programs to promote literacy, learning, and community engagement with the library.
About the Department
The Education and Outreach Department serves as the bridge between the Somali National Library and the community. We design and implement programs that promote literacy, foster a love of reading, and demonstrate the value of libraries to all segments of society.
Literacy Programs
Our literacy initiatives include:
- Children's Reading Programs: Story hours, book clubs, and summer reading challenges
- Adult Literacy: Classes for adults learning to read and write
- Youth Engagement: Programs targeting teenagers and young adults
- Family Literacy: Activities that engage families in reading together
School Partnerships
We work closely with schools throughout Mogadishu to support education. Our school outreach program brings library resources into classrooms and brings students into the library for tours and educational experiences.
Community Events
The department organizes regular cultural events including book launches, author talks, poetry readings, and exhibitions. These events celebrate Somali culture and provide platforms for writers and artists.
